NARRATIVE POETRY

NEW ZEALAND BEACH

A bird whistles a merry tune in my ear
The Cicada’s eat their scrumpticous dinner
The Sun slowly sets in the pale blue sky sending it to sleep
Magnificent
The warm sea splashes against my hairy legs
The spiky rocks pierce my delicate skin
A Cookie Time cookie finds the path into my mouth
My teddy is sitting next to me staring at the snow-capped mountains in the distance
My eyes stare too
The leaves fly past my face and into the L&P bottle sitting next to my teddy.
My beach towel gets so soaking that it’s not possible to use again.
My feet hit the ground.
THUMP! THUMP!
The soft sand screams under my burning feet.
There goes another day at the burning beach.
New Zealand beaches are magnificent

Cricket

CRICKET DAY ☺
What a day!! ☺
The Milo Cricket Trophy tournament had just begun , and Rolleston school cricket team had just started there first game against West Melton. We all had a go at bowling and did some great fielding. After a good go at fielding we all had a go at batting. Ben and Harris were first up batting, Harris hit a sweet 6, Ben also hit one.
After we all batted we got our score, 114-14 to Rolleston!! What a smashing score Rolly. ☺. We had a 5 to 10 minute brake then went back to vs  West Melton blue it was such a close game . We were first up at batting . We thought that we could of done a bit better, but we have to admit West Melton were superb at bowling and fielding. !!
In the end we were very worried about getting the score.  62-61 to…
Rolleston we all cheread like we won the tournament.
Our next game we won but was a very close game 55-35 to us. WOOOOO!!!
Our last if we won we would of  been undefeatable. We won 112-36.
Out of the whole the Tournament we came FIRST.
Kirwee  2nd and West Melton blue 3rd
Now we amazing Cricketers are going  to Rangiora for the Canterbury Finals

The Lion King and Leadership

In team Pohutukawa this term we are learning about leadership.

There are a number of leaders portrayed in the film “The Lion King”

What are the good leadership qualities that Simber shows?

What are the not so good qualities that Scar shows?

Who are some other good leaders that you can think of?

Zones Athletics

Lincon Zones

Our most exciting day started when we went to Hillmorton High school for our athletics zones. We were very nervous on the way. We didn’t think we would make it to that point but we did. Finally we arrived. It was steaming hot like 30 degrees celsius.“It’s time to start the 9 year old girls relays’’. Everyone in the Rolleston zones team was cheering us on. In the end we came about 4th. It was awesome. At the sprints everyone was running as fast as cheetahs .“It’s time to start the long jump I want all the teams to be cheering for their team mates.” Amazingly  Emma came 6th place with a jump 3m.11cm,WOW!!! Next was high jump. One girl from Rolleston came 5th place it was superb. “Time for some more relays the 10 year old boys and girls.” Our 10 year old got 2nd place and our 10 year old girls come 2nd place as well. Finally time for the long distance races”, the 9 year old girls were first up. One girl come 9th place it was exceptionally great. “10 year old boys time for your turn.” One phenomenal boy called Danny came 12th out of  about 30 people. It was a remarkable day with some extraordinary people but it was time to leave. We hope we can come next year.

JUMP JAM NATIONAL FINALS!!!

‘Year 2-4 Rolleston please come on stage and they are performing, “Got The Feeling.”’
Clap, clap, clap that was awesome they did great.
After they did there dance everyone got a loud megaphone to shout out of.
After every dance we had the prize giving I was really nervous because I wanted to know were our team Rolleston came.
In this section Darfield School came first danced to the cute dance Chihuahua I liked there costumes but I also thought Paparoa Street School should of came second but didn’t.
Rolleston School for the year 7 and 8 did awesome they were as pink as a pig. I think they should have come second or third.
Me and my friends got a photo with Brett Fairweather.
It was a super cool day. I hope we get a trophy next time!!!

The Building Site

I sit peacefully on the dewy grass as the wind blows softly against my flustered cheeks and whistles a gentle tune.
I can’t help but fix my gaze upon what used to be a blank grass area where children laughed and played. Not now! A monster of a building a tall, dark solemn building stands in its place.
Small birds chirp merrily as they perch on the rusty railing. The burning sun paints the building with sparkling gold rays of glimmering light that peek shyly from behind the fluffy white clouds.
The iron scaffolding imprisons the bare skeleton while the misty dust dances gracefully overhead.
A big black steam train rushes past roaring with rage as the tobacco smoke weaves in and out of wheels quietly following on its journey.
The fogged windows stare blankly at the planks of wood and rocky dirt mounds that lie in front and cheekily whisper.
As I watch this strange sight a faint singing noise echoes through the building trying to escape like its in a maze. Sadly it gets held captive and drifts of into the background.
Tears drip of the paneling as the nail gun pierces the monster and screams. Nobody can hear! Everyone’s too busy! And I just wonder when this marvelous masterpiece is going to be finished! Nobody knows for sure.
